Pre-arrival Paperwork
Prior to arriving for your clerkship:
Complete the online orientation and application NO LATER than 3 weeks before your rotation begins.
- Go to https://www.swedish.org/for-health-professionals/graduate-medical-education/information-for-students, and follow the directions. Once you complete the application form, a login and password will be emailed to you. If you have questions please email the GME office.
- Letter of Good Standing (LOGS): Required for this site. Please go to your E*Value profile and download the LOGS to send. Instructions if needed.

Orientation, First Day & What To Bring
Clerkship orientation: Orientation is at the UW at 8:00AM on the first day of your clerkship. The room number is on the Didactics page. Room information may change at the end of each rotation, so be sure to check the table the weekend before you begin.
After orientation: Report to SNI.
Directions: From the South: Take I-5 northbound to the James Street Exit (164). Turn right (east) on James Street. James will become Cherry Street. Turn right (south) on 18th Avenue. Turn right on Jefferson (west). Turn right into the main entrance (north).
From the North: Take I-5 southbound to the James Street Exit (165A). Turn left (east) on James Street. James will become Cherry Street. Turn right (south) on 18th Avenue. Turn right on Jefferson (west). Turn right into the main entrance (north).
Parking: There is no free parking available for students. The hospital parking garage is on 16th Avenue between East Cherry Street and East Jefferson Street.

Equipment to bring: Your UW ID badge (Swedish will not issue you one), white coat and name tag, reflex hammer, tuning fork (128Hz), stethoscope, (ophthalmoscope recommended).
Site Expectations & Clinic Experience
General: Students are expected to spend four and one-half days per week at the Neurology Division of SNI. One-half day is reserved for didactics at the University of Washington.
Dress Code: Professional attire. A white coat is preferable. Ties are not required for men.

Clerkship Schedule: The medical student clerkship at Swedish Neuroscience Institute is composed of:
- 3 weeks of outpatient neurology clinics
- 1 weeks of inpatient consultations
- 2 key neuroscience conferences each week (attendance required)
Brain Tumor Board (SNI Large Conference Room, James Tower, 5th floor) Mondays 7:30-8:30 AM
SNI Grand Rounds (Swedish Conference Center, James Tower, 1st floor) Thursdays 7:30-8:30 AM
Inpatient Rotation: The SNI Inpatient Neurology Team (INT) is a busy admitting and consultative service. Hospitalized and emergency room patients are seen with a wide spectrum of acute neurological disorders. Over half of the patients are evaluated for cerebrovascular disease, including management of acute stroke. Students round with the team, attend neuroradiology rounds, and see new patients daily. One to three new consults are staffed with attending neurologists each day.
Outpatient Clinic Rotation: A clinic schedule is below but may vary based on provider schedules. Confirm with Dr. Doherty at the beginning of the block. Students will see a combination of new and follow-up patients with a wide variety of neurological illnesses. A combination of autonomy and shadowing will be used.
Other training opportunities include neurosurgery, neuroradiology, observation of procedures including EMG, EEG, evoked potentials, and lumbar puncture.
Clinic runs from 8 AM to 5 PM. There are no weekend or night call responsibilities.
