Didactics and Conferences

There are an abundance of educational activities and conferences hosted within Neurocritical Care, as well as the Departments of Neurology, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, Neurological Surgery, and Anesthesiology. Participation in educational activities is highly prioritized at our institution, and all efforts are made to enable fellows to attend relevant conferences.

  • Neurocritical Care Conference (daily, Mon-Fri): Review of high-yield topics in Neurocritical Care and General Critical Care by our own faculty
  • Neurocritical Care Journal Club (monthly): Presented by our Neurocritical Care and Vascular Neurology fellows and with input from faculty mentors, we discuss highly relevant and recent publications in our field
  • Neurocritical Care Case Conference (monthly): At times, we invite back our patients and their families months to years after their stay in our NeuroICU, to learn about their road to recovery, challenges they faced, and their experience in the ICU. Other times, we review high yield topics or interesting and challenging cases.
  • Neurocritical Care CQI conference (monthly): CQI data and cases are reviewed by all faculty, fellows nursing leadership, followed by discussion of constructive changes and action items.
  • Seattle Area Chest Grand Rounds (weekly): a case-based clinical conference with fellows presenting unknown pulmonary and critical care cases to faculty
  • Fellows Teaching Conference (weekly): Interactive small group sessions focused on core curricular content for all critical care fellows
  • Ultrasound rounds (weekly): Clinical ultrasound rounds in small groups with ICU faculty and critical care fellows, based on a curriculum covering high yield topics in ICU ultrasound
  • Vascular Neurology Conference (weekly): Discussion of challenging and interesting cases, as well as thrombolysis and thrombectomy cases, with our Vascular Neurology Faculty and Fellows, Neuroradiology, Neurological Surgery, Pediatric Stroke, and Neuro-IR faculty.
  • Multidisciplinary Critical Care Journal Club (weekly): Presented by all critical care fellows, covering 2 papers related to a relevant ICU topicm designated curriculum.
  • Trauma Conference (bi-weekly): Topics relevant to the management of Acute Polytrauma.
